Crown Jewels from Asia at Hortus Botanicus

The Hortus Botanicus in Leiden will be celebrating 200 years of the garden in Bogor, the Kebun Raya Bogor or 's lands plantentuin te Buitenzorg with an exhibition of tropical plants in both the greenhouses and gardens. The exhibition runs from Friday 14th April through Sunday 8th October. The focus will be on edible plants, spices and herbs.
The Bogor garden played a key roll in the introduction of edible plants, spices, fruits and herbs in Europe. Caspar Georg Carl Reinwardt was the first director of the garden in 1817. After six years he became professor of botany in Leiden and the director of the botanical garden in Leiden.
